"I Have Blood in My Eye"

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 22:50 -- Eilsela

Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes

Or don’t shoot at all

It’d be no surprise

You see, to shoot you have to be brave

And that’s hard to be when your T.V. hero’s already made

You feel like you’ll never be enough

But it’s ok because soon the next show will be up

Who cares if we’re free as long as we’re entertained

It’s easier than fighting for what we believe anyway

It’s hard to believe anything anymore for that matter

If he’s right, and she’s right, and I’m right there’s no chatter

The problem with us all today:

We don’t care if the flag continues to wave

Because when we gave up fighting for work

We stopped being great

When we gave up fighting for right

We stopped being sane

When we gave up fighting for free

We stopped being brave

But I’m happy to say

Where

The blood

And the whites

And the tears

Are displayed

The flag will ever and always wave

In the EYES of the free, in the HOMES of the brave

(It’s not too late!)

Open those lids.

(It’s not too late!)

Remember where we begin.

(It’s not too late!)

Peer through the dark.

(It’s not too late!)

Embark

IT’S NOT TOO LATE.

Look our enemy in the eye

And realize

The enemy we’re all fighting

Is “I.”
