I can't put my Finger on It

There’s something about today

In the way the sun dances on the sidewalk

How the flecks of orange, red, and gold

Are reflected in your dark brown eyes

Outside, the oxygen seems more pure

The sky a deeper baby blue

A whisper seems to crawl through the trees

Rustling the leaves overhead

Like they're trying to tell me a secret

One hidden from me until now

So, I walk on

Playfully, I tug your shirt

Nudge you off path into the bike lane

And you love tap me right back

Our laughter is deafening.

Half the time,

We can't even remember what was so funny

We pause for a moment

To take a breath

We try to swallow our chuckles

But the minute you look at me

I explode.

Time never stands still

With you, minutes turn into hours

And before we know it, a day has passed

It's never been that easy

Except with you.

Things are different

You make me different

Transforming this shy, self-conscious, guarded girl

Into a bubbly, energetic, carefree spirit

You do this to me

Your smile. Your voice. Your touch. Your name.

Changes me everyday

That's my truth. The truth of us.

Never spoken, always felt.

And finally, I understand.

The universe's secret.

It's safe with me.
