I Am (WW2)

I am a living soldier stuck in a world of dead.
I wonder if I will become one of them.
I hear screams of pain and agony,
I see bodies all around me.
I am a living soldier stuck in a world of dead.
I pretend not to notice the danger with every step.
I feel the wetness of the trenches, and the rats at my feet.
I touch the shoulder of a fallen man.
I worry I will be next.
I cry for I am weak
I am a living soldier stuck in a world of dead.
I understand my moment can come at anytime.
I say they can not break me,
I dream of peace and to go home.
I try to say the day will come
I hope to stay strong
I am a living soldier stuck in a world of dead.

Really amazing poem. Your poem made me imagine how horrible a soldier in WW2 would had felt in that situation.
