I am not the only one
In my house, my school, my town, I can’t be the only one
Thought it feels as if I am sometime
Surrounded by a sea of color that is not my own
Mere physical distinctions, no, barriers at one moment in time
Reminding people like me we are not them
But now, it can hardly be seen the differences, those mere distinctions
In that time, people spoke, sat, fought, bearded down, died for our right
For a chance to be more than the pigment of skin
I feel obligated, almost destined to prove a point, that so many did
But what can I do? Take the pen to paper? These dreams to life?
All in a place where I am surrounded by a sea of color that is not my own
Yet, I am not the only one
On the rise, on the march, the quick step, to better things, a change, a beginning of a new era
In my house, my school, my town, I can not be the only one
Because I alone can not make this kind of a change roar so loud.
