I am from...

I am from fresh Folgers coffee every morning

from warm pancakes and cold orange juice on the weekends.

I am from Saturday church

And Sunday dinner.

I am from red lipstick and black heels

to overalls and fishing poles.

I am from my church family and

my closest friends.

I am from rickety ole’ bones

          and heart aches.

I am from it was the size of my face

to I should have stayed home.

I am from picking up sticks in the summer

and raking leaves in the fall.

I am from pork meat and chili, carnita meat

          And tamales.

I am from “You’re such a little Margie”

and “I wouldn't’t have it any other way”
