Human Race

Everyday is another race.
Someone shouts, pick up the pace!
Always a new challenge to face.
Spirits high, energy low,
We must keep going to a place we don't know.
Someone to the ground drops.
We all stop ...
Breathing heavily upon the ground,
The rest of us not making a sound.
Three little girls run up to the fallen soldier
One grabs water out of their holder.
They help him up, hold the bottle to his lips.
Slowly, he sips.
Struggling, he stands
He nods, and wipes off the sand.
He nods, and we continue on
The journey that's never done.
We run, but never fast enough.
On the rugged terrain, we kick up dust.
We run through depressions, wars, and terrorist attacks
Never holding back.
Together, we can make it through anything,
No matter what the world brings.
We go until the day should be done,
And still, we run.
