Up I go

Onto my own two feet

My first time

My first step

I pulled myself up

But then I fell

I began to cry

But my mom pulled me up

"Don't cy"

She said

"Never cry"

She still says

I pulled myself up

Once more

Only this time

I did not fall

Years later

I still fall

Sometimes

Harder than others

Only now

I can pick myself up

All on my own

These steps are all mine

Every day I take a step

The day I learned to walk

I learned to stand on my own two feet

I learned to pick myself up
