HOW DO YOU PAINT THE TWILIGHT
HOW DO YOU PAINT THE TWILIGHT
How do you paint the twilight
The time between the day and night
The dark surround of diminishing light
Some painters paint the day in scenes
O vivid color, blues and greens
Or Van Gogh’s swirling celestial things
But twilight has no stars you know
No orange sky or city’s glow
Once a horizon, now but a shadow
So how do you paint the twilight
If not like day and not like night
It deserves color in its own right
Cool shades of indigo and gray
Preceding night - receding day
And sounds that come from far away
How do you paint those
The same words without the metaphors
HOW TO YOU DEAL WITH GROWING OLD
How do you deal with growing old
After you’ve lived your productive years
Now, facing your own mortality
Some men recount the glory of their youth
While some put faith in a glorious afterlife
But what if death is really just darkness
And there is no soul to damn or save
Then, how do you deal with growing old
When your better days are behind you
When faith no longer carries you
Doesn’t old age deserve some respect
From the wisdom and experience of life
After all, life isn’t over yet
And what about all of your memories
What do they count for
