How

It’s still hard for me to understand.

How when you kiss me, my heart drops

And my stomach rises

As the hair behind my neck stands up

And uncontrollable shivers roll down my spine

All in a euphoric haze resembling that of a dream

Which you never want to end

Because it feels like how waves sound when

They crash on the shore of the most beautiful island

And how babies smile when they taste something sweet

Or how food tastes after having not eaten all day

And when you’re massively worried about something

That ends up turning out more perfect than you had hoped

Just seconds before your favorite song of the century

Pops up on a radio station you never bother checking

Like when it’s finally autumn and the vibrant aroma

Of foliage and laughter tell you that it’s the holidays again

And hot cocoa reappears but only with

Those itty bitty marshmallows because they make

Even the Grinch feel all warm and fuzzy inside

As the sweet smell of petrichor illuminates

The hearts of those soothed by the rain.

It’s inexplicable and never to be explained.

But I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite thing in existence.
