Hope/Nadia

Thu, 02/09/2017 - 12:37 -- nl2018

She named me
after a blessing
after the telling
of stories from
people who's lives
she herself
would never be
brave nor strong
enough to live

She named me
after sunshine
after the golden
happiness that erupts
from a mother's breast
when she sees her babe
suckling on her chest
and realizes that she's
brought life into the world

She named me
after soothing summer breezes
after the peace
that comes when
your life has left
"finally begun"
but is not yet at
"finally done"

This woman,
she gave birth
and brought me
to this earth
and none can take away
her very first gift to me
nothing gold can stay
but hope still lies within
and maybe one day
i'll understand
why she decided,
holding a tiny infant's hand,
to decide to name her daughter Nadia
hope
