The men out in front, leading the charge.
They are the leaders, the believers,
Everyone knows what they can do.
Custer, who had no clue what to do,
And General Grant, with his boys in blue,
They changed the course of history.

If only I could be like them then,
Like JFK or even old Ben,
Then perhaps I would inspire other kids too.

Though history would leave them behind,
They are always at the front of my mind.
Sometimes I ask myself,
“What would THEY do?”

As the years fly by,
While their stories get older (as do I),
Their heroics inspire me to dizzying heights.
Surely Washington, Lincoln, and all the rest
Will forever in my mind be naught but the best.
