Hidden Tears

Tears are the words we want to say,

But can't be spoken, they are the

Pain we feel when, in a moment,

Everything changes. . .

They say invisible tears are

The hardest to wipe away, take

The longest to go away, and

Are hidden from the rest of the

World to see.

We put on a happy face to

Hide the pain we feel, but when we

Are alone, tears are shed and it's

Like the floodgates are breaking loose-

A breakdown.

It's like our goal in life is to

Cover the pain we feel and blend

In with everyone around us.

People live their lives pretending

To be happy.

We are like actors with masks on

During the day. We take them off

When we are alone at nighttime.

Then the memories of the pain

Return to us.

Memories of past mistakes and

Regrets, pain from relationships,

Lost loved ones, words that should have been

Said, hurtful words said by others. . .

These are the things we hide.

To please those around us, we seem

Happy and put together. It's

Like an unspoken rule; everyone

Has to be happy all the time.

But the people who seem the happiest

Are the ones who are hurting the most.

Tears are the words we want to say,

But can't be spoken, they are the

Pain we feel when, in a moment,

Everything changes.

They are hidden from the rest of

The world to see.

They come from the heart.

I feel like people try to hide who they truly are and what they go through.  I wrote this poem not only based off of experience, but also because it seems to be a common thing in our world today.  People of all ages can relate.  I want people to know that they're not alone.  Even the people they think have their lives together hide pain.
