Hesitate

So I have heard said

A hundred times

‘May God be with you.’

‘May God protect you.’

And as many times

I have looked over my shoulders

To locate him,

I have found no one,

Not even seen

A faint haze.

And so I ought to be told

There is no one accompanying me

Or protecting me

That alone I am at each step

Of life, I journey.

Why hesitate in stating the truth?
