Heel Lock

Location

I start on your lateral ankle bone

And walk across to your medial counterpart

Not knowing what to expect from this profession

And I lose my footing on your rounded cliff and fall

Yet in time, I hang on and swing around your heel

and cling onto your wrinkled sole

and I start to empathize you

Envisioning the pressure you go through

every time your foot slams on the surface

with a purpose to cut and switch direction

Shaking off your defender as you

Polish every practice to perfection

Your work ethic you’ve been raised with

Motivates me to correct my mistakes and

So I climb back up onto your foot and

Dream of myself learning beneath your sock

And securing my knowledge with your laces

But the skills in Athletic Training

Come in until you finish learning the basics

So I look forward and dive from that same rounded cliff

Swing around your heel once more

And pull myself back up, finishing your heel lock.
