The Heartfelt memories of a Sapling

I stood a field away

Looking at a tree

Big, willowed and beautiful-it looked very free

As I looked at it I felt at peace

Like time had stopped, just on a lease

When dawn came around, I was done and alert

And in front of my feet, lied a mound of dirt

Day after day, week after week, one little sapling was starting to peek

It might have been small, but it sure gave me glee

I checked on it every day

For months and months, but only to my dismay

For the sapling did not grow, it stayed the same. And then came the snow

The white flurries covered it up, then laughed at me

The sapling lay forgotten, under a snow heap

Days turned into months, months turned into years

All my studies kept me occupied so did my duties

Life took me away, like a cool windy breeze

I was no longer the child I used to be

Work took me far, travel even further, until the sapling was lost in my memory

Life went on, like a routine, until I was too tired to do anything

With my last quarter spent, my last property sold-

I traveled back to the sapling, only to see that it was no more

In its place was a beautiful tree. Big, willowed with blossoms, it looked very free

I sat there underneath it, enjoying the fresh air, wishing that I had enjoyed in life the small treats

So, to my dear friends, although I am old

My wisdom, I can assure you, is more than it was long ago

Take my advice, remember to take a breath and enjoy those moment like works of art

Because those are the memories you will hold close to your heart

Those are the things that will stay after everything else departs
