Heart of the Hunter

Sat, 10/11/2014 - 19:17 -- L31gh4

Two heart beats come together as

The freezing rain falls steadily

Dripping off the few brave leaves

That cling stubbornly to sleeping trees

It falls into the eyes of hunter and prey

Sliding over still bodies to wet the grass

Pulling slippery mud up from the depths of the Earth

To drag at the slow moving body of the hunted

Two breaths puff like smoke into the frigid air

Two anxious hearts beat a rhythm

A melody of fear and anticipation

One deadly wink through an unassuming intersection

Warm skin brushes, soft as a kiss over cold steal

A single drop of rain touches brass as

Death flies to the beast

One’s breath is held, the other’s final expelled

A single heart beats victory
