The Hate U Give

The villain gets away

The Innocent die

There’s sadness on my mind

Because there isn’t justice for his life

You know how it is, in the Garden Heights

There are riots outside, all night, in the Garden Heights

I still remember that night

One Fifteen stopped us cause a tail light

I will admit kahlil had a little tone

I was muted not a sound from a single bone

So many messages going through phone

Seven’s wondering where I’m at why I’m not home

Eventually the cop pulls him out the ride

I must be greek cause my mind would just roam

Thinking of every worse scenario

Kahlil grabs his brush to keep his mini flow

At a time like this that boy must be brave

I heard shots and knew the situation is grave

He just tried to ask if I am okay

But at that moment I would never be the same

All I could do was scream out and cry

Cause I knew Kahlil sleeping in heaven tonight

The villain gets away

The Innocent die

There’s sadness on my mind

Because there isn’t justice for his life

You know how it is, in the Garden Heights

There are riots outside, all night, in the Garden Heights

I want Justice, but I can’t stay silent

I want no violence

But the foul thing the 5-0 did

When he was taking me back to my crib

Let’s me know not all cops do their jobs

Obviously things like causes the mobs

He pointed his gun while I attempt to sob

Mourning over his body as if I was his mom

Wrong place, wrong time at the blink of an eye

My whole life changed, it was rearranged

It turned me insane, a little deranged,

Too many mood swings, but now I am sane

And I’m just saying, he wasn’t sane

Kahili had no weapons or gas to weigh in

The probability of jail time is slight

Now they really got me screaming out THUG LIFE

Now the riots outside

Everyone’s going crazy in the Garden Heights

The cops pull up with their tinks

Keep it up this neighborhood is on the brink

Of destruction, he mashed the button

Ofrah told me my voice was a weapon

Before I hop on top of the police car

Let the whole world know I’m Starr

The police threw some gas

Like it’s a free throw I toss it right back

I find chris and I hold his hand tight

We don’t know if we’ll survive tonight

The goons Pull up inside a van

We’re saved now thanks to Daddy’s man

The take us back to the store

Pour milk on our face since it was burning sore

Once they leave the fire was lit

We were stuck thought this would be it

But daddy come and save us right on time

And king’s finally getting punish for his crimes

The villain gets away

The Innocent die

There’s sadness on my mind

Because there isn’t justice for his life

You know how it is, in the Garden Heights

There are riots outside, all night, in the Garden Heights
