The Hardened Heart
The hardened heart
One that’s been glued together after being ripped apart
It won’t let anything or anyone in
So as to keep from being fooled again and broken
The hardened heart believes only in self
Because it isn’t able to rely on anything else
It hides its misery with pride as a disguise
Thinking that if it tries, and tells lies
It will feel better, but it still cries
The hardened heart doesn’t reach for a hand
Instead, by itself-all alone, it tries to stand
But it continues to fall underground
Where there is no light to be found
