"Half Breed"
My heritage is mixed like the color of my skin
I'm too black for the whites
Too white for the blacks
But, my color is not who I am
The beauty standard of those who lingar inbetween
is not one I strive to meet
I resent those who speak rude words and slurs
for the word in which they call me
"Half breed" I am deemed
on a fence and not allowed on either side
Not black enough for this
Not white enough for that
where is my place in this divided world if I am made of both sides?
This poem is about:
Me
My country
Our world
