Groundhog

The groundhog dreams

of pretty flowers

as he sleeps through

the wintry hours.

He longs for the

sunny, warm Spring

with its lush and plentiful

plants to bring.

As he stirs

he starts to stare

from the trees and hills

to the sun's glare.

But poor groundhog,

too easily scared

by an almost invisible

thing he bears.

It's his shadow of course,

if he sees it, oh no!

Six more wintry

weeks to go.
