Grandfather
Dear Grandfather I Never Met,
I look up at the photo of you and my mother
that dangles on an aging white painted wall
roughly six feet from a worn sandy brown carpet
in the hallway of my home.
Between your two tear stained cheeks
is a tender heartfelt smile
as you embrace my mother
who is beaming in all white.
I have passed by the photo of you
before I was brought to the world,
when the ceiling seemed as high as the sky,
to now where I can touch the wooden frame.
Sometimes I look up at the glossy print
imagining your voice
imagining your laugh
imagining who you were and if you would be proud of me today.
Love,
Your Granddaughter
