The Golden Days Are Gone

Location

The Golden Days are Behind Us

I grew up in a world where every person on your street

Was decent, kind and sweet

The country I lived in believed it was the best

And national dishonor was for the rest

But little did I know, that underneath my nose

Politicians sold my children’s future and their finances rose

I grew up in a nation ruled by the people

Where people flocked to the church steeples

But now instead I find, that for me, there isn’t a dime

That can possibly be earned because they stole my time

I will be paying other peoples bills for eternity

Because one fact that our leaders couldn’t see

Was that every man should be responsible for what he does

Instead my money goes to the guy looking for a quick buzz

You may say that my money goes to a grandma that can’t walk

Or maybe a child that doesn’t have the ability to talk

But I say to you, that my grandchildren will live in oppression

Because our politicians sold us into depression
