Gods of Ivy League

Thu, 12/12/2013 - 01:17 -- ebryar

We worshipped them with sleepless nights,

With tears from our fatigue.

No other gods culd be so cruel

As those who we perceived.

Their temples came with tiled floors.

Their clergy wore black suits.

Their praises sung by red-soled shoes,

We slowlywere seduced.

The faith we held showed no pity,

But for our gods we yearned.

We pored over their assigned tomes,

In self-made Hells we burned.

We sought approval from our gods

And got a letter grade.

If that fell then we had sinned

And that our gods forbade.

They'd show no mercy, we were told,

When judgement day arrived.

So, we sacrificed our lives for them

And hollowly survived.

Our parents, teachers, and our friends

Had given us this faith.

I look back now at all those years

And mourn for such a waste.

Too many nights we'd worshipped them,

Too many days fatigued.

No other gods could be so cruel

As gods of Ivy League.
