The Gift of a Child

Barren lands and quiet ears,
Nothing close to sound
Distant sounds of laughter your only save
Long days and drawing nights,
More than enough sleep than right
Along comes a child with its fits and tears,
Filling your home with love through the years
Making you laugh and cry,
Begging for sleep at the end of daylight

But through it all you'll take the tears,
The fear and long days looming near
To feel the love and laughter a child brings
