Introduction

Hello my name is israel gutierrez. I am 21 years old, i am from vista california and i currently attend MiraCosta college. I graduated from mission vista california in 2015 and did not really consider on going to college. With support from very close friends i decided to enroll in a few courses and it turns out i really like college. This transition was not easy as no one in my family has never gone to college. Uncles, cousins and even my own dad said college isn't worth it. They all told me college is expensive, you're going to be debt- it's just not worth it. However, i decided to try it out.

It was not easy being a first generation college student and being the oldest of a large low income mexican immigrant family. Many said it was going to be difficult. Some even said it wasn't going to work out. However with determination and hard work i was, in fact, able to achieve everything i wanted to achieve. I have 3.9 gpa, have been president and/or founder of 5 college clubs, i have been on the school's newspaper as well as my schools student government. Not only did this make me a better student but it also made me a better student. Just last year, i was admitted into UCLA, Berkeley, Irvine, Santa Barbara, UCSD, Davis and many more. However, my mom fell very sick and our family did not have any money. I decided it was the best choice for me to stay here for another year and support my family. It was a hard decision but I knew it was the right one. My mom means the world to me and if she was able to be there for me for 18 years I think i can be there for her for just one.

Now in september, i plan to transfer. I am currently applying to all of the ivies, most if the uc school and some out of state school. I can't wait to hear back and be able to make my decision on where i should attend. Once i am admitted it will be studying political science and business administration and continue to pursue my dream of one day working for the us department of labor. I would also like to be the city mayor of my town here in vista to try and make my community a better place.

As of this year, i work as an avid tutor at torrey pines high school, one of the best schools in san diego county, i work at my colleges community learning center in the afternoons and i go to school in the evenings. During the weekends, i like to catch up on homework, i also volunteer at my local soup kitchen and teach english to immigrant children at my local library. I also love soccer and i am the captain of my local soccer team where we play in the morning every sunday.
