Gay Catholic

My religion tells me who and in what to believe.

My religion is trying to teach me how to be a better me.

Its restraining me from what's wrong

And pushing me to what's acceptable.

But its making me feel like church is not where I belong

Because people like me are seen as despicable.

They think because I’m different God won't want me

But life isn't like an exam,

Its more like poetry

And showing who I am.

You express yourself and don't need to hide

But their closed minds don't allow them to see

Its not about getting things right

Sometimes its about just letting others be

And letting them figure out their flaws

Because at the end of the day

They won't receive applause

For trying to change the fact that I’m gay.
