The Gardener

The little girl had just come home from Sunday school.

They had talked about Jesus and the golden rule,

And the importance of committing good deeds.

This motivated the girl to plant a seed.

She gathered soil, a shovel, and pot.

Planted the seed and watered it a lot.

Day by day, she watched it grow with care.

If the plant needed something, she was there.

The plant was well maintained and groomed.

Within weeks, it was in full bloom.

One day, she went next door with the flower.

The old man greeted her with a glower.

"I grew a few lilies for you to keep."

He was overwhelmed and began to weep.

No one had visited since his wife passed away.

He was as still as stone; he didn't know what to say.

The old man just smiled and nodded his head.

She knew it was his thank you, although unsaid.

Three days later, a homeless man came knocking on his door.

He thought of the lilies, and gave him more than he could ask for.
