The Futility of Hunger

Futile.

Out of all the words

I've ever learned

None come close to describing the ideal

of Hunger, the way that Futile does.

Everyday thousands of perfectly edible foods

thrown away

to make its way to the landfills

Just yesterday

I threw away an apple, not stopping to think

"Could this be put to better use? How many people would kill for this fruit?"

How is it

that I am able to constantly waste my dinner

when the statistics still exist?

17.6 million familes going to bed hungry

Hunger.

The futility comes from the concept

that I live with a surplus of food

and many live lacking

Where does this deficit come from?

Can I one day have a place to put my apple

where it can be used for something better

than trash?

Where it can travel to the mouth

of a person who experiences the futility of

Hunger.
