Friends

I remember the day you left

The moving van pulling out of the drive

Leaving me by myself

Leaving me to fight for myself

For so long it had been ma and you against the world

You knew me better than I knew myself

But in a matter of seconds that had been taken away from me

You had been taken away from me

We wouldn’t let our friendship die though

We couldn’t

Every afternoon I sat by the phone

Waiting for your call

To discuss school, boys, and how hard it was to live without each other

We visited in the summer making that the best week of the year

Against all odds our friendship survived

Our friendship thrived

And after ten years apart

Being in the college dorm together makes everything worth it.
