A friend
I traversed the halls waiting
Waiting for something that should have been there
Waiting for something that wasn't there
Waiting for something that was gone
The bell rings and I head to class
First day, first hello to goodbye
Time speeds up as I take my seat
And the beginning of my last school year replays in my memories
Bullies lined the halls and everybody watched
As this twig was thrown around like a tennis ball
They watched and cameras flew out of their pockets
I was the next championship Wimbeldon ball
And the bullies were the champions
One person was willing to help another
A nerd, a twig, a geek, a "smart one"
He stopped the game and crowned the champion
Putting the crown on his own head
And we have been friends ever since then
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The seat in front of me soon became occupied
With a small girl with virgin hands and eyes
The innocence combined between us was higher than the whole school
And like magnets I came closer to her
And said hello
At that same moment
The guy who would try and ruin her life
Busted in the door and took a seat beside her
He tried to grab her and she said stop
He tried to talk to her and she turned away
He tried everything and she said no
After that class the bullies lined up against the walls
The destroyer standing in front of the door
He looked at her and told her to follow him
I waited till they turned a corner
And followed until I heard a scream
I ran and hit death with my bony arms
Trying to protect her
One punch came and another
But I wouldn't go down
I kept throwing punches
She ran and I followed running from him
I pushed her into the girls bathroom
She said thank you and I ran
I helped her
Three weeks later I was a tennis match again with death
I tried to pull myself out, but balls aren't in control
She came and pushed them ending the game and we ran laughing
Again and again
I said thank you
She helped me
All I needed was an extra hand
All I needed was a friend
