Freedom Flight

Once upon a time

a young princess sat in her bedroom

wishing to be saved

wishing to be free

from the confines of expectations.

A beautiful boy

on a beautiful horse

raced towards the castle

dragging a bloody bag behind him

holding the head of a slayed dragon.

Upon arrival to the castle

he tells the tale to anyone who would listen

boasting his strength and agile

while the princess weeped

and weeped

and weeped

for the prince had killed her only friend

her friend who would fly to the top of the tower

and spend her nights with the lonely princess

who was now even lonelier.

When the tears stopped

her anger grew

until her skin grew dark and scaley

her gown transforming into wings and claws

and her crown into horns.

She flew out of the window that her friend used to fly into

swooping to the ground below

and swallowing the prince whole.

Her heart did not heal fully but her hunger for freedom was satisfied

for she would never be imprisoned again.
