Step by step she takes
Holding her breath
all of the way
“She knows what everything’s about”
they say
Not a single hair
out
of
place
Her words are precious because
Her gaze is her words
She dresses in cotton and hemp
Not leather
or furs
She can’t give thanks
Not a single hair
out
of
place
“She’s just so”
They say
“No friends or foes”
They say
She goes home
Not satisfied with being
alone
Crumbling
collapsing
into her
vegetarian meals
and
minimalist movie reels

She must keep up her image
Her eco-chic
ultra-sleek
So to speak
She’s so far up in the clouds
that she’s unique
Braless
Flawless
“She’s had her chakras cleaned through”
She’s just too good to be true
She’s got nothing figured out
Stutters when she tries to shout
Her foreign music doesn’t make sense
The language is on the
other side
of the
fence
“She’s a mess”
they say
she no longer holds her breath all the way
With all of her hair
out
of
place
No more Kombucha
No more tofu chalupas
No more morning meditation
No more theatrical creation
She in her space
With all of her hair
out
of
place
