The Forgotten Fighter

Your body forms in front of my eyes,

Like a beacon of light, or a ray of sunshine.

I breathe in the scent of roses and sweat,

And pray you won't leave me bereft.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen your eyes,

In parking lots, corners, and grocery lines.

I feel you breathe in my ear, and on my neck.

Every movement you make is smooth sex.

Memories arise of you holding me close and speaking of forever,

And ever.  Ever.

Your hands gripped me tighter and tighter,

A noose taking away the last of this fighter,

Until I was nothing more than a memory from the past.

And you were watching me in my casket.

Bruises, scratches, stitches, breaks.

All my fault, and my fate.

When he tells you it's love; forever, and always.

Remember how fragile your skin is.

Remember how life likes to play games with your pain.

Remember this always and forever,

Before it's too late.
