Forgiveness

Blessings can come in all shapes and sizes,

But I think God also likes to send them in disguises,

That what looks like a hurricane

And is overflowing with pain

Can actually be a rainbow,

Something you needed to go

Through. Yeah, it can be scary at first.

The beginning stages are always the worst.

Like going through a divorce.

That word was the source

Of a lot of pain and fear

And caused many tears.

I guess the best words to share

About what it was like are: living nightmare.

The stabbing words and fights were hard to bear.

The worst part was knowing about the affair.

That was the darkest part of the storm I was in,

But the healing would eventually begin.

I did get better, and my healing was almost complete,

But I felt I was missing out on something sweet.

It’s called forgiveness and it happened last night.

It dissolved the burden and created light.

My forgiveness looked something like this:

Text to Dad-

“I’m at a Christian concert right now. I’m ready. I forgive you for everything that happened with the divorce.”

Looking back now, I can easily see

In more ways than one the divorce was a blessing.

Things are better now than they were then,

And if I had to, I’d do it all again.
