Forget Me; Remember Us

Location

Within a box of silent white

Filled with rays of fluorescent light

A somber bed, a chair of regret

Beeping and wheezing, a morose duet

Echoing anguish from adjacent tombs

Screaming passion from nearby wombs

Walkway floors that grab at the guts

And tear them down into Misery's ruts

In the chair she sits, the bed he lays

And all the while, Pestilence plays

His gaze meets hers, she trembles and cries

Shedding crystals from ruby eyes

There forms a crack on his face of stone

And from it, a melody with an ancient tone

The only words in his last serenade

"I love you dear. You are the light to my shade."

The pressure rises, the dam begins to burst

As she imagines his carriage, an ominous hearse

Quaking and breathless she grasps his hand

Knuckles now bleached, no longer tanned

"Please don't cry, for soon you shall see

We'll be together again. Only you, and only me."

She feigns a smile for her beloved man

He returns the favor as best he can

"Though I have one request, all that I ask

Is you forget this face, it is merely a mask.

This memory is one that I pray you will sever.

Remember better times, and that our love is forever."

On visionary windows, he closes the shutters

And from his chest, life's final breath flutters

A screeching signal as green mountains are razed

Alerting all to the end of his days

The room erupts into blue-robed blurs

Dancing around the love that was hers

She seems not to notice as she stands from the chair

And begins her search for a breath of fresh air

"I love you too." The only thought on her brain

As she exits the building and enters the rain
