The starving artists are hungry
For words and sound to fill their silent stomachs
Fortune cookies
Alphabet soup
Birthday cakes and
Those gross heart-shaped candy love notes
That no one likes on Valentine’s Day
That’s poet food
Words to be eaten
Phrases of flavor that melt on your tongue
Like lines of Shakespeare
All food should be like that
Sugary sonnets served on porcelain paper
Licked clean by literary tongues
I think we could make a killing off English majors
We’ll say
Welcome to the scholar café
Our menus are anthologies
Grab any author
We serve every genre
For appetizers we have alliterations
Today’s specials all start with D
Main courses are many
We have savory mantras
Spicy meter
Metaphors that aren’t what you ordered
But close enough
And
For dessert we have a wide array of verses with curses
Because not everyone’s a saint
And sometimes we just need to have a little damn cake
Our pies are inscribed with Poe
Our tarts are by T.S. Elliot
Our doughnuts are riddled with Dante
And special for the kids
A sundae made only of Silverstien and ice cream
We’ll make a place where people come to eat their words
And really chew on their ideas
Now, who’s hungry?
