Fishes
Fishes
The fish, panting convulsively, begged for his life.
But Providence could stand no more.
Soon, part of the raft was completely submerged in water.
I was home again, drifting in the ocean of my ancestors.
I am just a fish who grew lungs, but never learned how to breathe.
Life, I learned, was never fair.
I pretended not to notice.
I sat beside him.
And the moonbeams kiss the sea.
But the moonbeams’ kiss can never reach me,
because my sinking legs never learned how to swim.
