Final Flame

Shadows churning and spiralling

Words endlessly applying themselves to paper

A written goodbye

So many times written before

Yet here again the same words written

Line by line.

I’m sorry

I failed

I wasn’t enough

I don’t know what to do

I’m a monster

Slowly seeping from a single page

Two pages

Three pages

Four

Now just one more

A final page

A final word

Then silence

A calming silence before

Crackle

Pop

Snap

Flames curling up

Burning away the words

The thoughts

Lifting them free into the air

Ashes spread far away

Away from my mind

Away from me

And so I am free
