Fear and its Opposite

If ever I am asked what I’m afraid of

There’s so much I could say

The future, the present, losing who I love, spiders.

It all comes down to a fear of fear

Because fear is out of my control,

And it’s scary not knowing what comes next

Fear can be irrational or rational

But it makes us who we are and protects us from pain

How will we know if something isn’t right if we don’t hesitate?

I know that without fear, I could be in a very different place right now

Maybe we need fear like we need oxygen

Maybe it’s keeping us alive

But what is fear without its opposite?

Bravery and hope are powerful too

Because we need to be able to move forward

After the fear has held us back

So two steps forward and one step back

There’s so much more ahead than what’s left in the past
