i’m as harmless as they come, don’t you know?
wet, doed eyes and parted sugar lips
i couldn’t hurt you even if i tried, i swear.
thin, snapped wrists and jutted spine
i’m the dumb, broken bird you cared for.
caged and shelved for another rainy day
away from you, you hurting thing.

you go and ruin everything you touch
like midas,
going off and screaming incoherently
about the failures and faults of society.
your wounds and bruises can only go so far skin-deep
before there’s a wild tumor in your brain
because of your inadequate ability
to take care of yourself.

and me? i couldn’t hurt a fly, much less you.
no, i don’t have to.
all i have to do is watch:
there you go again, hurting the ones you love.
you ruin yourself.
