Faces

Faces blend into the raindrops
As paintings fade to grey
White washes over all in its path
As underfoot, hearts bleed and break
The sky awash with bruises given
Black as coal and blue as tears
Eyes lose home and belong to nothing
Fall into the upturned graves
Memories scarred with images burning
Burdens unshared, always carrying
Freedom came in goodbyes for most
But those who live cannot be free
The wire entangled in their dreams
As faces are painted black
And butterflies race
the stars
to heaven
