Everyday

Wake up every morning

Put on my makeup

Foundation first thing,

Eyebrows next up,

Mascara, blush and

Finish with a touch of

Pink on the lips.

Look in the mirror and

Tell myself I am flawless.

Wake up every morning

Get dressed for school.

Pull one leg then the other

Through my favorite jeans

And try on five shirts until

I’m content.

Look in the mirror and

Tell myself I am flawless.

Wake up every morning

Fix my hair. Should I wear

It up or down? A bun? Too

Much effort… Cute fishtail?

That’ll do.

Look in the mirror and

Tell myself I am flawless.

At school

“Wow your makeup looks so

awesome”

“That shirt is so cute it looks

good on you”

“Who did your hair? I could never

get mine to look that good!”

My reply

“Thanks, it’s really nothing”

“Thanks, it’s really nothing”

“Thanks, it’s really nothing”

Makeup an excuse how effortless

This all was when it took an hour

And a half to get everything right

just so I won’t sound conceited.

But I know I’m flawless.
