You know what needs to change? Change itself.
Because change in this world is famine or feast
Either up on a pedestal or relegated to the shelf
Where it waits to rise, like ideological yeast
But this isn’t how change is supposed to progress
A rollercoaster ride of sickening import.
No; change shouldn’t be driven by Presidential address
Nor celebrity or wealth or prowess at sport.
You see, change is an evolution, a gradual advance
It shouldn’t be a cycle or casual affair.
But rather a steady march across the great expanse
Of injustice, to make life that little bit more fair.
And so we must go to the source.
A level removed, meta, all told.
To truly harness the power of this force,
We must reject the traditional mold.
Poverty and suffering doesn’t end,
Just because the issue is no longer at the fore.
And a region can’t fully rebuild with the money we send
In the wake of disaster or war.
And that is where our problems lie.
Why some countries flourish, while others wallow
In a depressed state, though they may try
The morass they face is too much to swallow.
So, I make my plea,
To those interested in pursuing charity:
Please don’t offer assistance along with the mode,
But think of it as a constant, obligatory road.
