Ephemeral Splendor

the sunlight drips
 from the marmalade leaves
 irredescent and simple
 the way gravity is still

it falls along the weaker ground
  striking and searing, blazing about
The sun is in everything right now

   pinging off the mustard signal
     bending across the shield
and beneath everything drops the dew
  a kaleidoscope rolling past
   in soft reflection, its memory

the sun is in everything
but the shadow of last night’s salute
black as night but cold as ice
twisting into the open air

where has the light gone?
