Endings

To end is to hurt/

feelings left in a lurch/

every open door leaves/

a closed one in its wake/

it doesn't matter the reason/

it doesn't matter the time/

moving on isn't as easy/

as finding an orange to rhyme/

even as chapters must close/

for better ones to unfold/

the heart always aches/

for the endings in its wake/

a welcomed new beginning/

is just the postscript of one end/

and the launch of another/

always with something left unfulfilled./

But the greatest pain comes/

when endings hide behind silver tongues/

restraining you as the end drags on/

holding you hostage to the old/

without showing you the promise/

of what the future may hold/

and instead leaving you trapped/

in a prison of stopped time/

without the hope of a hurtful end in sight/
