Harar
Ethiopia

As I roam the poor streets of Ethiopia,

The wails of the children come to my attention.

I look to my left and see the worn-out, oversized clothes

That hang loosely on their bodies.

Their bodies like twigs, weak and easily broken.

Their eyes filled with darkness, calling for help.

No one answers.

Orphaned,

Hungry,

Alone.

They pray to see another day of light.

Suffering day by day,

Managing to fight world hunger.

Stumbling upon a little girl in need,

I reach to my pocket and grab extra change.

I slowly put the change in the child’s palm,

Such fragile and flimsy hands.

Her soiled face lit up with a smile.

Her eyes filled with brightness,

Because her stomach was soon to be indulged.

Hopeful,

Faithful,

Spirited.

No longer a victim of world hunger.
