Egg Breaking

As I wiggle my body I realize
I'm in a hard casing
To protect me?
Instinct tells me to use my beak
Use it like a hammer and to start
peck peck pecking
I peck and peck until I see a crack of light
This is my glimmer of hope

I wriggle my body
Struggling to break the casing
I wiggle, I kick, I peck with all my strength
CRACK
The light that pours in
causes me to squint
"Maybe I should stay in my egg?" I think
But alas out goes my head
Overcome by curiosity

The world I come out to
Is much better than my shell
I stretch my damp feathers
And look up to feel the warmth
Provided by the sun
