Eden

Sun, 02/04/2018 - 20:34 -- pickeam

I had lived in paradise, surrounded by flowers and fruit.

Things were sweet,

But I knew there was more beyond the walls.

I became human as soon as the snake coiled around my heart,

And suddenly there were thorns in the bushes,

And life became cold,

Cruel.

The fruits of my labour became forbidden to touch, too sweet,

The flowers I had loved grew to poison.

I see Eden when I close my eyes,

Before I was cast aside and the garden sank to gold.

The gates still stand tall, rusted and taken over by the garden that lived inside.

Over bliss within paradise, I’ve chosen freedom.

I am now my own garden of Eden.
