Dying Stars

I know it's vain to wish upon a star

But don't our wishes make us who we are?

It's weird to think how old the starlight is

Took years and years and then some to arrive

Sometimes I wonder if the stars I see

Are in the sky above me still alive

I knew a star once

She shone in my dark nights

Guided me when I was lost

My wish was to know her

But like many distant stars

She too was dying

I couldn't have known

Nor could she

I guess some stars

Just aren't meant to be

Maybe it's the price I pay

For wishing it would last

Even the brightest stars are dim

In a night sky so vast

There's so much I would change

If I could travel to the past

But the painful, painful truth is that

Fate always finds you and it finds you fast

It's hard to see the outcome from afar

Sometimes you wish upon a dying star
