Drown

As a kid you learn to swim

Not doggy paddling or floating or splashing

But actually swimming in a body of water

What you don’t learn

Is how to swim to the top

In a body of people

We flail our arms and cry for helped

But through the muffled waves nobody hears us

All they manage to hear

Is the comments others leave on a post

Or the number of likes they get on a selfie

Not the cries of those on death’s doorstep

With everyone engaged in their phones

Our destiny is to drown

We drown is seas of people

With nobody caring to look up from their phone

And hand us a life jacket

All we can do is

Let go

And drown
